Seaside_009: Correlations/co-relations

¶#3 consists of texts and images found on the online collaborative encyclopedia Wikipedia, BIC pen drawings by Kim David Bots and the poem The Mental Traveller by William Blake. ¶#3 is assembled by Kim David Bots, designed by Tjobo Kho, edited by Jan-Pieter ‘t Hart and published in an edition of 150 by OUTLINE in May 2022. 

For #2 in the ¶ (Pilcrow)-series Romy Day Winkel has approached collecting, or hoarding, as an aesthetic of patience. Through her selection of Wikipedia-articles she looks at what happens when objects, magical or otherwise, are all put together. If it is impossible, and perhaps even uninteresting, to know when a collection or archive is finished, how does one start to hoard impatiently

¶#2 consists solely of texts and images found on the online collaborative platform Wikipedia. ¶#2 is assembled by Romy Day Winkel, designed by Tjobo Kho and Wouter Stroet, edited by Jan-Pieter ‘t Hart and published by OUTLINE.

The 71 storyboards in this publication are the result of a collaborative process between G.C. Heemskerk and Bernice Nauta, and function as the foundation for their short film The Plantiarchy (2025). The project proposes a parallel reality in which the relation between plants and humans are drastically transformed. In this proposed universe, the plant is the protagonist: it playfully and critically tells a story of colonial expansion, botany, more-than-human eroticism and speculative plant-sentience, flipping the historicised script of control and dependency.

The Plantiarchy comprises a residency period at Hotel Maria Kapel (Hoorn, NL) and various exhibitions including Museum de Lakenhal (Leiden, NL), IKOB Museum (Eupen, BE) and Marres (Maastricht, NL), followed by the short film which premiered at Go Short (Nijmegen, NL) in 2025.

¶#0 consists solely of texts and images found on the online collaborative encyclopedia Wikipedia. This publication, which is the first in the series, has many authors and we’d like to thank every one of them. It is assembled by Jan-Pieter ‘t Hart.

Jan-Pieter 't Hart (he/him) is an artist and art worker based in Amsterdam, working mostly in the fields of writing, sound, publishing and organizing. He co-runs a publishing platform called OUTLINE and a music community called corecore.

This book project introduces the history of eunuchism through auto-theory, historiography, historical fiction and poetry, exploring this identity in the ancient world and what kind of echoes can be heard in the present day. By overlapping various histories, and drawing the line between eunuchs in antiquity and contemporary gender discourse, Odete makes a case for a history of gender that hasn’t yet been written, asking what is the relevance of eunuchs to the history of art? And what does the study of the eunuch expose about the current world?

Askia Touré was there at the birth of the Black Arts Movement. He was there at the birth of Black Power. In the era of decolonisation, Touré’s visionary poems and essays spoke powerfully to the Tricontinental struggle against the forces of colonialism and white supremacy in Latin America, Asia and Africa. They continue to speak to this struggle today. This 50th anniversary edition of Touré’s visionary 1972 book Songhai! is his first UK book publication and provides a powerful guide to the states and stages of Black radical politics not only during and up to 1972, but into our uncertain future.

Askia Touré is one of the pioneers of the Black Arts / Black Aesthetics movement and the Africana Studies movement. Ishmael Reed has called Touré “the unsung poet laureate of cosmopolitan Black Nationalism.” His poetry has been published across the United States and internationally, including in Paris, Rome, India, and The People’s Republic of China. His books include From the Pyramids to the Projects, winner of the 1989 American Book Award for Literature; African Affirmations: Songs for Patriots: New Poems, 1994 to 2004, and Mother Earth Responds. In 1996, he was awarded the prestigious Gwendolyn Brooks Lifetime Achievement award from the Gwendolyn Brooks Institute in Chicago. Now based in Massachusetts, since August 2019, Mr. Touré has been reading with the Makanda Orchestra, beginning with a celebration of the South African musician Ndikho Xaba.
