Sun 26 January until Sun 20 April 2025 (12:00-14:00)
Our …have …word reading group is back for its fourth series. You’re warmly invited to join us every second Sunday 12h-14h00 from January 26 to April 20 2025.
In this reading group we will look at the ways in which narration constructs and animates subjects. Following on from our previous series which circled around questions of community, this series seeks to address the 'I' which produces community and inevitably the community which produces the 'I'. We will read poetry and fiction from authors that question the contemporary trend for first-person narration and the ensuing paradigm of immediacy and authenticity. Moving between authenticity, meta-fiction and the conceptual, the texts in this series will help us glance sideways at the complex politics of an unreliable self.
We begin this series by reading from Dionne Brand and Renee Gladman. Further on we will read from work by Asiya Wadud, Aurelia Guo, Marina Vishmidt and Anna Kornbluh.
The reading group will be facilitated by Ros and Ire.
