rile* is a bookshop and project space for publication and performance. rile* is into poetry, theory, choreography, artist writing and various other text based experiments. rile* organizes performances, meetings, launches, readings... rile* is the base word for silence in Láadan, a feminist constructed language developed by Suzette Haden Elgin in 1982. The language was included in her science fiction Native Tongue series. Láadan contains a number of words that are used to make unambiguous statements that include how one feels about what one is saying. According to Elgin, this is designed to counter language's limitations to those who are forced to respond I know I said that, but I meant this.
Our bookshop is open on Wednesday and Thursday from 11h to 17h, and from Friday to Sunday from 11h to 18.30h.

Alice Heyward x Deborah Birch
'This performative reading trickles out through affection and interdependence. We think together about caves, hollows, gaps and departure from the thermodynamics of everyday life, minding the womb space as a companion to the outside world. Our performative practice is anteceded by a daily somatic ritual of writing while subject to the bodily treatment of the other, seeking to mutate our material environment and inner worldings. Our bodies are space for connection and articulation.'
ALICE works with dance, performance, choreography and writing. She is invested in thinking together with others through different forms, curious about the transformation of relations. Her practice develops through diverse collaborations as she moves towards different situations for working, living and friendship.
DEBORAH BIRCH works with text, concepts, and food. She is interested in what thought does to a body, and what the body can do to thought. Working between history and poetry, she likes sinking and rising through different layers of the same thing. She is invested in interweaving her practises with others through collaborative intimacy.
BRYANA FRITZ is a dancer and choreographer based in Brussels. Her work situates itself at the intersection between poetry and performance in duet with the user interface of OS X. Indispensible Blue (offline) is a title which hosted multiple iterations of this inquiry - performance, screenshot recordings, and publications - addressing the poetics of usership. Submission Submission re-situates this duet (with OS X) by occupying the position of amateur hagiographer, portraiting the subversive strategies of Medieval women saints. Bryana has also worked as a performer for Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker, Boris Charmatz, Xavier le Roy, and Michiel Vandevelde. And since 2016, she collaborates with Henry Andersen under the moniker Slow Reading Club, a semi-fictional reading group that deals in choreographed situations for collective reading.
