The Significance and Relevance of Early Modern Indian Painters to the Contemporary Indian Art

TIME by Spencer Longo is a collection of printed work depicting government raids, religious visions, environmental catastrophe, and extremist fundamentalism tangled together in a narrative web of salvation, annihilation, and transcendence. Using pen plotter graphics directly on uncollated pages of Time magazine, Longo explores the conspiratorial trope that messages are secretly embedded in mass media, coaxing our millenarian anxieties out through an additive printing process using graphics from survivalist publications, end-times evangelical cartoons, and marginalia from the borders of underground occult material, all sprinkled with ecstatic bursts of star-spangled clipart. A must-have for your fallout shelter's library.

The 71 storyboards in this publication are the result of a collaborative process between G.C. Heemskerk and Bernice Nauta, and function as the foundation for their short film The Plantiarchy (2025). The project proposes a parallel reality in which the relation between plants and humans are drastically transformed. In this proposed universe, the plant is the protagonist: it playfully and critically tells a story of colonial expansion, botany, more-than-human eroticism and speculative plant-sentience, flipping the historicised script of control and dependency.

The Plantiarchy comprises a residency period at Hotel Maria Kapel (Hoorn, NL) and various exhibitions including Museum de Lakenhal (Leiden, NL), IKOB Museum (Eupen, BE) and Marres (Maastricht, NL), followed by the short film which premiered at Go Short (Nijmegen, NL) in 2025.

Nourhan Maayouf’s I Was Going to Work is a hybrid sci-fi picture book by the Cairo-based artist, in which the proto-cyborg citizens of Happy Land Nation establish new-fashioned diurnal rhythms against the ever-present backdrop of a monorail to nowhere and its pillars, idle and idolatrous.

Across forty-four spreads of what might be thought of as a picture book for adults, Maayouf delves into every aspect of a deeply familiar society in which retrograde devolution is billboarded as reinvention by Orwellian technocrats and speculators.

And yet pockets of the cyborg population continue striving, dreaming, craving, protesting, gleaning, and inventing. For a situation to be bleak, some notion of beauty must remain tenaciously rooted where it matters most.
