Salvage is a bi-annual journal of revolutionary arts and letters. Salvage is written by and for the desolated Left, by and for those sick of capitalism and its planetary death-drive, implacably opposed to the fascist reflux and all ‘national’ solutions to our crisis, committed to radical change, guarded against the encroachments of ‘woke’ capitalism and its sadistic dramaphagy, and impatient with the Left’s bad faith and bullshit.

One of America's most historic political trials is undoubtedly that of Angela Davis. Opening with a letter from James Baldwin to Davis, and including contributions from numerous radicals such as Black Panthers George Jackson, Huey P. Newton, Bobby Seale and Erica Huggins, this book is not only an account of Davis's incarceration and the struggles surrounding it, but also perhaps the most comprehensive and thorough analysis of the prison system of the United State.  

Since the book was written, the carceral system in the US has seen unprecedented growth, with more of America's black population behind bars than ever before. The scathing analysis of the role of prison and the policing of black populations offered by Davis and her comrades in this astonishing volume remains as pertinent today as the day it was first published.

It was 1969, and temperatures were rising across the factories of the north as workers demanded better pay and conditions. Soon, discontent would erupt in what became known as Italy’s Hot Autumn. A young worker from the impoverished south arrives at Fiat’s Mirafiori factory in Turin, where his darker complexion begins to fade from the fourteen-hour workdays in sweltering industrial heat. His bosses try to withhold his wages. Our cynical, dry-witted narrator will not bend to their will. “I want everything, everything that’s owed to me,” he tells them. “Nothing more and nothing less, because you don’t mess with me.”

Around him, students are holding secret meetings and union workers begin halting work on the assembly lines, crippling the Mirafiori factory with months of continuous strikes. Before long, barricades line the roads, tear gas wafts into private homes, and the slogan “We Want Everything” is ringing through the streets.

Wrought in spare and measured prose, Balestrini’s novel depicts an explosive uprising. Introduced by Rachel Kushner, the author of the best-selling The Flamethrowers, We Want Everything is the incendiary fictional account of events that led to a decade of revolt.

GLORIA JEAN WATKINS, connue sous son nom de plume BELL HOOKS, née en 1952, est une intellectuelle, féministe, et militante étasunienne. Elle a publié plus de trente livres et de nombreux articles, et est apparue dans plusieurs films documentaires. Traduits dans de nombreuses langues, ses ouvrages sont considérés parmi les plus importants sur la question aux Etats-Unis et suscitent un réel engouement en France depuis quelques années. Les éditions divergences ont déjà traduit et publié trois de ses ouvrages dont La volonté de changer et A propos d'amour.

How do we imagine life in a world facing global upheaval and ecological challenges? 

This book, as well as the exhibition it accompanies, is an invitation to move away from systems driven by endless growth and resource extraction, encouraging renewed ways of conceiving of the ‘natural’ world. When the world of science and hard facts has been separated from the world of magic and intuition, how do we bridge this divide, what are the after-effects and how do we repair? Magical Realism examines how the porosity between ‘magic’ and ‘reality’
may open up spaces for other horizons to emerge in response to proliferating monocultures, precarious lives and climate change. At the confluence of analysis and speculation, the authors and the artists brought together in this book explore paths towards restoring connections in a biosphere exhausted by exploitation, dispossession and debt.

In this anthology of contemporary eco-literature, the editors have gathered an ensemble of a hundred emerging, mid-career, and established Indigenous writers from Polynesia, Melanesia, Micronesia, and the global Pacific diaspora. This book itself is an ecological form with rhizomatic roots and blossoming branches. Within these pages, the reader will encounter a wild garden of genres, including poetry, chant, short fiction, novel excerpts, creative nonfiction, visual texts, and even a dramatic play—all written in multilingual offerings of English, Pacific languages, pidgin, and translation.

Seven main themes emerge: "Creation Stories and Genealogies," "Ocean and Waterscapes," "Land and Islands," "Flowers, Plants, and Trees," "Animals and More-than-Human Species," "Climate Change," and "Environmental Justice." This aesthetic diversity embodies the beautiful bio-diversity of the Pacific itself.

La philosophe Sara Ahmed se présente parfois comme « une rabat-joie féministe, une alienne affective, une femme queer racisée en colère ». Depuis plus de dix ans, elle tient un blog, feministkilljoys.com, où elle publie des morceaux de ses livres et de ses conférences. Dedans, on trouve des bouts de rages - contre le harcèlement sexuel à la fac où elle enseigne, contre le racisme institutionnel, contre le capitalisme carcéral... — mais aussi des célébrations des solidarités et des activismes transféministes. De là sont extraits les trois textes rassemblés dans ce court recueil, « Vandalisme queer », « Usage queer» et « La plainte, méthode queer»; des textes qui ont tous pour point commun de réfléchir aux potentiels d'interruption du mot queer. Queer, oblique, pas droit.e.s, déviant.e.s : des termes pour se mettre en travers des chemins trop bien tracés. Des textes comme autant d'appels à multiplier les existences vandales.

Un tuyau percé peut mener à un autre; il peut le faire et il le fait. Il suffit parfois de desserrer un écrou, un petit peu, juste un tout petit peu, pour que l'explosion ait lieu. Et nous avons besoin de plus d'explosions. Les usages queers, les usages obliques, décrivent ce potentiel d'explosion. Ils décrivent la manière dont les petites déviations, les petits desserrements, la création d'une issue de secours, l'ouverture d'une échappée, peuvent aider à multiplier toutes sortes de fuites et de sorties.
